The Museum of the Institute’s History was opened in 1980 in the main academic building. In 2001, after a fire that caused enormous damage to the academy, the museum was literally revived from the ashes. Now, thanks to the active efforts of the university administration and the museum council, our academy’s history museum is a well-developed structure that preserves the memory of many generations of doctors.
The museum’s collections are located on several floors of the academy and include not only handwritten and printed materials, photographs, paintings, instruments, personal belongings, commemorative diplomas, and awards, but also video materials and multimedia data archives.
The Museum of IvGMA actively participates in all socially oriented public events of the academy: it works with alumni and helps organize reunion evenings, memorial events (including those honoring participants of the Great Patriotic War), and contributes to organizing and conducting one of the sections of “Science Week.”
Today, the museum is a rapidly developing structure, with invaluable contributions to its formation and ongoing modernization made by Galina Nikolaevna Kashmanova. Galina Nikolaevna, head of the academy’s history museum, is not only the constant custodian of its materials but also an active participant in the university’s public life.
Ivanovo State Medical University provides convenient and comfortable hostel accommodation designed to ensure a supportive environment for its diverse student body, particularly international students. The university maintains a number of well-furnished dormitories that are strategically located in close vicinity to the academic buildings and hospitals, minimizing commute time for students. Rooms are typically designed for double or triple occupancy and are equipped with essential furnishings such as beds, study desks, and storage space.
Crucially, the hostels are maintained with central heating systems to provide warmth during the long Russian winters, and a consistent supply of hot and cold water is available. For security and discipline, separate accommodation is typically provided for male and female students, and the hostels are monitored with 24/7 security and stringent entry rules.
To facilitate independent living and community bonding, the ISMU hostels are equipped with a range of shared facilities. Students have access to common kitchens on the hostel floors, which are equipped with stoves and necessary appliances, allowing them to prepare their own meals and manage their dietary needs. Understanding the large population of international students, particularly from India, the university often makes provisions for a hygienic mess facility or has arrangements with nearby canteens to provide Indian cuisine, including options for vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals.Beyond the basic living spaces, the hostels also include recreation rooms and study areas where students can socialize, relax, and conduct group study sessions. Furthermore, the overall living cost in Ivanovo, including accommodation, is generally considered low and affordable compared to major Russian metropolitan areas.
ISMU is committed to providing state-of-the-art facilities to support its rigorous medical curriculum. The learning process is conducted in modern academic buildings that house well-equipped classrooms and laboratories, designed for interactive learning and practical demonstration. A central resource is the university’s Scientific Library, which offers an extensive collection of medical literature, scientific journals, and digital resources, crucial for both academic study and research. For hands-on clinical training, the university leverages its partnerships with a network of well-equipped affiliated hospitals and clinics in the Ivanovo Oblast. These facilities, including a multi-specialty teaching hospital, operate 24/7, providing students with early and comprehensive clinical exposure and practical experience under the supervision of experienced physicians, which is vital for their future careers. Additionally, the university offers facilities for extracurricular activities and sports, promoting a balanced student lifestyle.
