The University has been operating since 1702 and is one of the oldest universities in Central Europe. It builds on the historical heritage of Silesia and the legacy of Austrian, Prussian, Czech and Polish culture, continuing also the traditions of the Polish universities in Lviv and Vilnius.

The University holds the title of Research University as the only university in Lower Silesia and one of ten in Poland. This means that in the coming years it will receive additional funding for the implementation of the University of Wrocław project, which was awarded in the competition “Initiative of Excellence – Research University”. The project envisages many benefits for current and future students of the University, tutoring, reducing the size of class groups and expanding the offer of programmes in English, as well as the introduction of additional single-degree studies intended for particularly talented and ambitious people.

Students life:

Students enjoy a vibrant campus experience enriched by a wide array of extracurricular programmes, sports, and supportive services. The All‑University System of Extracurricular Programmes (OSPP) offers nearly 80 free courses—ranging from creative workshops and language clubs to biophysics and anti‑procrastination sessions—that students can take alongside their degree studies. International students benefit from the Buddy System, pairing them with local peers who help them settle into university life and Wrocław’s cultural scene. The university supports physical wellbeing through the UCWFIS sports centre, offering 36 disciplines—from yoga and volleyball to advanced athletic teams—mostly free and some competitive sections for those wishing to represent UWr. These initiatives, along with active student organisations, funded activity grants, and cultural trips (like the “Roots & Routes” walks exploring Wrocław’s multicultural heritage) make life at UWr socially engaging, diverse, and deeply integrated into academic growth.

University of Wroclaw (UW) offers a vibrant and intellectually stimulating campus environment designed to complement its wide range of multidisciplinary programs in arts, sciences, law, social sciences, and humanities. Academic courses are delivered by experienced faculty and researchers, combining theoretical knowledge with practical learning. Classes often include workshops, research projects, seminars, and collaborative assignments, helping students develop critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Beyond academics, UW provides a variety of extracurricular opportunities, including student clubs, cultural and social events, sports programs, and academic competitions that foster creativity, teamwork, and leadership. The university also organizes internships, study visits, and networking events with national and international institutions, giving students valuable exposure to real-world professional environments. These experiences create a well-rounded, supportive, and globally oriented campus life for students.

University of Wroclaw (UW) offers students comfortable and convenient accommodation options through university dormitories and nearby private residences. Rooms are typically furnished with beds, desks, wardrobes, and high-speed internet, providing an environment conducive to both study and relaxation. Shared kitchens, lounges, and common areas encourage social interaction, allowing students to build a supportive community and enjoy a balanced campus experience.

The university campus is equipped with modern academic and recreational facilities, including lecture halls, libraries, research laboratories, computer rooms, and collaborative study spaces. Additional amenities such as sports complexes, cafeterias, and recreational zones ensure that students have access to resources that support both academic success and personal well-being. Together, these facilities create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for local and international students pursuing a variety of disciplines.
